I reached back Hyderabad on the 11 of June after a teeny weeny vacation. I had decided even before i left that I’m going to start cooking my own food as soon as I’m back. So full of grit and determination and absolutely no clue whatsoever I headed to the market. Even before I made sure there was water in the kitchen tap (not a very smart thing to do in Hyderabad) I found myself in Big Bazaar in Ameerpet. 4 months of chicken biryani and butter chicken and the office thali “Daily Daawat” can do that to a person. For the next two hours I stood there in the utensils’ section. After trying to appear deft, picking up the Non-stick pots and pans and plates of various of various shapes and sizes I finally just gave it up. The good old Hawkins pressure cooker I had got from home ought to be enough. So I Just picket up spoons and went on to buy a “few” other things and few other things did I buy at least that is what i thought till the bill printer sprung out a two foot and a half long scroll. So there I was at 10 PM on Ameerpet main road holding two humongous bags full of various oddities. Small Problem. I was on my cousin’s bike a humble Honda Unicorn. This was the first of a long series of “Ohh!! Oh!!” that would make my endeavors in the kitchen sometimes funny sometimes exasperating. But its these little “Oh my god how can i be so Stupid” moments that add the little spice to what for many is a chore.
